  1. Is Whole Body Cryotherapy Safe?
    Absolutely. At Peak Recovery and Health Center, safety is our top priority. For that reason, we chose the Cryo Innovations whole body cryotherapy chamber. This is the safest WBC chamber on the market. To ensure client safety, it offers the following features: Fingerprint authorization to ensure a certified operator is operating the session, a pulse OX sensor is worn on the clients ear to ensure proper oxygen saturation levels of the clients blood, and the operator will be required to do a safety check every 30 seconds in order for the session to continue. It is also recommended that clients do not shower immediately and ensure they are completely dry prior to entering the chamber.
  2. What Do I Wear?
    The Peak Recovery and Health Center provides every client with a robe or towel, socks, slippers and gloves that are used to protect your extremities during the treatment. Men are required to wear underwear or shorts, but undergarments are optional for women. All jewelry and exterior metal/body piercings must be removed. We also recommend that you pat yourself dry with a towel and do not apply oils, lotions, or perfumes immediately prior to treatment.
  3. How Long Does A Cryotherapy Session Last?
    A cryotherapy session is typically two to three minutes. Most clients are literally in and out of the center within about 10 minutes.
  4. How Cold Does It Get?
    The Cryo Body Cryotherapy chamber reaches temperatures between -180 and -240° F, lowering the client’s skin surface temperature by 30-50 degrees.
  5. How Does Whole Body Cryotherapy Compare To An Ice Bath?
    Whole Body Cryotherapy treatments result in a very different response from the body compared to traditional ice baths. The first difference will be the time required for treatment. WBC only takes 2-3 minutes while ice baths are typically 15-20 minutes or longer. Most people feel significantly more comfortable during a WBC session than compared to an ice bath. Perhaps most importantly, ice baths result in actually warming blood to the peripherals as opposed to achieving vasodilation with WBC treatments. WBC enriches the blood, increase hemoglobin, improve blood circulation, improve the immune system, increase collagen production, while ice baths do not supply any of these benefits and also run the risk of hyperthermia.
  6. Is Nitrogen Gas Dangerous?
    No. Nitrogen is a friendly, non-toxic gas. The air we breath is actually composed of 78% Nitrogen. Nitrogen is as common and as safe as Oxygen. It is just important for clients to not drop their head down into the chamber during a session and directly inhale the Nitrogen. However, it is possible to get burned by Nitrogen when the proper precautions are not taken. It is extremely important that you are completely dry when you enter the Cryotherapy chamber and that your hands and feet are covered. To ensure your safety, only certified operators are allowed to operate our cryotherapy chamber.
  7. Is Cryotherapy Comfortable?
    Yes. Most people are amazed at how comfortable they feel during the entire process. Cryotherapy involves dry, cooled air flowing over the skin surface, so the process doesn’t freeze skin tissues, muscles or organs. Since Cryotherapy uses a dry cold with no moisture, it is tolerable even to those who do not like to be cold. Towards the end of the treatment, some people may get a “pins and needles” sensation, but this will dissipate after the treatment.
  8. How Do I Feel After A Session?
    Whole Body Cryotherapy stimulates the body to release endorphins and adrenaline. As a result, most people feel terrific and have more energy when they finish a session. This typically lasts for 6-8 hours but can be for days with some clients. Many clients also report improvements in their sleep quality after Cryotherapy.
  9. Can I Catch A Cold From Whole Body Cryotherapy?
    No. The immediate cold impact of the cryotherapy will raise the internal body temperature for a short period of time. The stimulation of the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds. A lot of people will actually find a reduction in their current cold symptoms if they’re currently battling a cold.
  10. I Am Claustrophobic. Can I Use Whole Body Cryotherapy?
    Yes. Your entire head remains exposed to the room and above the whole body cryotherapy chamber. The chamber door does not lock and the staff member is there through the entire process to ensure to ensure the client’s comfortable and safe.
  11. Do I Have To Take A Shower Before Or After A Session?
    No. Showering is actually discouraged prior to a session. The entire procedure is dry and does not make your skin wet. There is also no need to shower after a session. Many clients come by during their lunch or work break since the entire treatment is only 2 to 3 minutes long and you can realistically be in and out of the center in 10 minutes.
  12. How Many Treatments Are Needed To Achieve Optimal Results?
    This can really depend on the condition being treated. It should initially take eight to ten treatments in close succession (daily or every other day) for the first few weeks. After this initial loading period, maintenance treatments are recommended to done 1 to 3 times per week. Athletes with high volumes of training and people with chronic pain can benefit greatly from coming daily sessions. However, not everyone is the same and we see the most successful with people that are committed to recovery as a lifestyle, which means regular treatments.
  13. Who Should Use Whole Body Cryotherapy?
    Whole Body Cryotherapy can really help all different kinds of people. It is ideal for athletes seeking muscle recovery, people with chronic pain and inflammatory conditions, skin rejuvenation, and those looking to improve overall health. There is no age minimum to receive treatment, but the client needs to be at least 4’8 tall. If a person seeking treatment is under 18, a parent’s written consent is required.
  14. Are there any circumstances in which cryotherapy treatment should not be applied
    There are situations where you have to forgo a WBC session. The contraindication list is as follows:
    The following conditions are contraindications to Whole Body Cryotherapy: Pregnancy, Moderately or severely elevated blood pressure (blood pressure above 180/95 mmHg), acute or recent myocardial infarction, an acute heart attack or a heart attack within the past 6 months, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, Cardiac arrhythmias, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, severe Raynaud’s Syndrome, severe anaemia, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, Cancer, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, cold-allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases. Children under 18 must have parental consent to receive treatment.
  15. What Are The Risks Of Whole Body Cryotherapy?
    Please read to the above FAQ about who should not consider whole-body cryotherapy treatment, but Whole Body Cryotherapy has minimal risks. Systolic blood pressure during the procedure can increase, but will reverse after the procedure as peripheral circulation returns to normal. Allergic reactions to chilblain (extreme cold), claustrophobia, and anxiety are rare. Activation of some viral conditions (cold sores, etc.) due to stimulation of the immune system can occur. All protective clothing (socks, gloves, undergarments) must be dry in order to avoid chilblain.
  16. Is Exercise Recommended After The Cryotherapy Session?
    Yes, an advantage of cryotherapy over ice therapy is that tissues and muscle are not frozen. Short durations of light exercise post cryotherapy will induce more rapid vasodilation of the blood vessels and capillaries and extend the period of analgesia. Many athletes also receive treatment prior to high priority events to reduce inflammation and help them perform their best.
  17. Will my health insurance cover my whole body cryotherapy treatments?
    There is no such coverage available as of yet in the United States. However, many clients can use their Health Savings Account cards just like a credit card.
  18. Can You Stop Treatment During A Session?
    Yes. If you are experiencing any pain during the session or if you are suffering from anything else, you can stop the treatment immediately. Simply let the operator know that you would like to end the session and the operate will be able to stop the treatment immediately. The client can also leave the WBC chamber at any time. The door of the chamber can be opened at any time and can easily be opened.
  19. Will Whole Body Cryotherapy Help Me Lose Weight?This topic is still being researched, but there is not yet any conclusive validating evidence that validates this currently. It is highly probable that a single WBC session will burn somewhere between 500-800 calories in total. The body does initiate a fight or flight response and is working to recirculate the blood, which leads us to believe that there are substantial calories being burned during each session, but we do not have the research to validate this claim at this time.
  20. Cancellation Policy
    No-shows and appointments not cancelled at least 30 minutes prior to appointment time will result in a $20 fee.
  21. Can I Work Out Immediately Before Or After My Exposure?
    Yes. If a client workouts before the treatment, clients can expect greater recovery due to the inflammation reduction. However, it is required that the client is completely dry prior to entering the chamber. . If the client works out after a WBC session, they can expect a higher pain tolerance, more energy and greater flexibility.
  22. Why Do I Need Socks And Gloves?
    The method of cooling the skin is so sudden that the body is triggered to pull blood from the extremities to protect the body’s core temperature. The vessels around the core then constrict, holding the blood in the core. It is important to simply protect the areas that are most affected by this reaction to ensure the client’s comfort and safety during your exposure.
  23. Is There A Weight Limit?
    Peak Recovery and Health Center’s whole body cryotherapy chamber can accommodate clients up to 350 pounds. * Please note: The client will also have to be able to stand comfortably within the chamber without touching the sides in order to be allowed in the chamber. The operator will assist the client in accessing and measuring in the chamber for the client.
